A few days ago my security camera was triggered during the early hours of the morning by something I can't explain. The security camera has a 'line crossing' feature which is enabled on 3 sides of the fence in my garden, so that any human crossing the line (climbing over the fence) triggers an alert. Never before has anything flying, such as a bird or butterfly triggered the alert and in fact, ...

Loved looking at these old photos, though some are very old. I was born in 1964, my grandparents lived in St Anne's (grandad worked at Dewhurst butchers in the Square, and also sold ice cream at one point). Then they moved to Blackpool lived North Shore opposite Victory pub. Used to go 4 times a year for at least a week each time. If it was good weather we went to the beach, not so good we went to Stanley Park. My Dad was also a member of the George Formby society, they used to meet up in the Winter Gardens, he passed away 2020 with Covid but used to enjoy playing his banjo. Great times thank you for the memories.

Thank you for sharing pictures of the Alhambra. I wasn't aware of it before. Plus, seeing a steam train chuffing along the promenade, past the tower. Palace ballroom and the open air swimming pool. How classy Blackpool was and how tacky it is now.

Stanley Matthews was to my mind the greatest British footballer ever. Never a kicker but always played with skill, intelligence and anticipation. The only player who could bear comparison with the greats of the 50's e.g. Pele, Puskas, Schiaffino etc. Not only a truly great outside right but able to play as in the 1954 World Cup at inside forward and thread balls through a la Zico.

Why do such lovely buildings have to be replaced with the 'cheap 'n' cheerless monstrosities that look like the back end of of tyre factories, Corporate vandalism at it's worst !

Really really interesting and must have taken you quite a long while in research. Loved how you changed the calming music for the fella who wrote March of the Mods and other voice recordings. My late grandad absolutely loved Frank Randal and I have 78's of him still. There is a young woman buried in Leyton cemetery also I believe ( possibly in an unmarked grave) who was murdered in an air raid shelter beneath car park Metropole Hotel in 1944!

aporkyprimecut I thought so my dad was in on spec I’ve only ever heard the version on a cassette tape I have stored away, he passed many years ago so I couldn’t believe my ears when I watched it. Can I ask if you don’t mind where you got the music from, thanks for getting back to me : )

@@Xander137x I really can't remember where I got the song from. I collected many songs relating to Blackpool over the years and the On Spec version of Sitting on the top of Blackpool Tower seemed to best fit the old Blackpool photograph's. I'd be happy to send you the mp3 version of the song if you want it?

Enjoyed the video but set a little bit before my time. Glad to see many people agree with an email I sent a few days ago saying how the Blackpool of today has deteriorated and now It looks quite slummy. It’s a pity things have to change and many times not for the better. I think things began to change when boarding houses became self catering and B and Bs. The boarding houses of the past were great. After an early morning walk on the Prom returning to have breakfast the lovely smell of bacon cooking as one walked along the street to where you were staying certainly whetted the appetite. A table on the ground floor window with White tablecloth and condiments which always included HP sauce and Vinegar was the hallmark of of every boarding house! You didn’t always get the sea view promised or you might get a glimpse if you poked your head out of the window and looked to the left still they were happy days and something you always looked forward to. Memories memories. l On a positive note I read the other day that Blackpool beach has been voted the third best beach in the World!

The promenade has had a lot of investment , however the rest of the town is looking very tired and severely run down in places. The number of people begging on the streets is an eyesore. I hope that further investment is forthcoming, otherwise Blackpool will wither on the vine. Shame.

I loved this place. Spent so much time in there the old dear in the payment booth used to let me go home for dinner at 5 then let me skip the turnstyle on my return that evening. Juke box up at the back next to the spinning wheel, Boxer Beat, Paul Young Wherever I Lay My hat and Cyndi Lauper's Time after Time seemed to be on a continuous loop. Great fun, I remember a gang of us who became fortnight friends playing 1 man hunt in there with Big Joe the skinhead from Harthill Scotland(Nutty Boys on the back of his Harrington) What a laugh, scrambling down a cargo net with only a row of Space Invader machines to break your fall.

Thoroughly enjoyed this although I was born in 1955 I can remember lots of places in Blackpool don't know what happened to the indoor market beside the Tower you had to go down stairs to get in, it was great, I can remember a lady who used to make lace dressed dolls in the market .I last went there in 2000 and she was still there making the dolls and other things she must have been about 80 then. 🗼😊

What a fabulous film and that from an owd Boltoner. As a 4 year and 1 month old, on the day of the match I remember going to Crook Street in Bolton to meet my Dad who had been by train to Wembley for the match. He wasn't too pleased. The day after my Gran took me out of the way by taking me to Blackpool of all places for the day. I remember the large crowds the Team Coach with the cup passing the "Manchester Hotel". My Gran was a wonderful lovely woman but, taking me to cheer BFC was a bit too far.

Looking at this film brought back such happy memories. My mom, her sister and their mom bought a boarding house in Park Road, just off Church Street. I used to stand outside the stage door of the the theatres and get autographs of the stars. It was such a happy place to be and loved living there but unfortunately Blackpool today is nothing like it was. Thanks you Blackpool for my memories as a child and memories last forever. I am using my husbands iPad and my name is Gillian.
